How the AF Score works

What the AF Score is

AF Score is Analítica Fantasy's own system for rating every player in every match. It adds or subtracts points for every measurable action — goals, assists, cards, penalties, saves, clean sheets, tackles, interceptions, blocks… — and calibrates them against the season's real distribution. More granular, transparent and demanding than the official fantasy scores.

1. Minutes played

The basis of any score: being on the pitch counts.

  • ≥ 90 minutes
    +3
  • ≥ 60 minutes
    +2
  • ≥ 45 minutes
    +1

Only the highest tier reached applies (they don't stack). Extra time counts as normal minutes — a player who plays 120' gets the same +3 as one who played 90'.

2. Goals, clean sheets and goals conceded

What you add or subtract depends on your position — a defender's goal is worth more than a forward's goal.

PositionGoalClean sheetGoal conceded
PTGoalkeeper10,05,0-1.5
DFDefender6,05,0-1.5
MCMidfielder5,02,0-1
DLForward4,01,0-0.5
  • Clean sheet: the player must have played ≥ 60 minutes.
  • Goals conceded: same threshold. Defenders and goalkeepers share the maximum penalty (-1.5) because they carry primary defensive responsibility.
  • Goal bonus: +1 for opening the score (first goal of the match) and +2 for the 'winning goal' (the one that puts the team decisively ahead).

3. General actions

Any measurable action counts. The philosophy is 'everything counts', in increments of 0.5 points when needed.

  • Assist
    +3 each
  • Tackle
    +0.2 each
  • Interception
    +0.3 each
  • Block
    +1 each
  • Penalty won
    +2
  • Yellow card
    -2 each
  • Straight red card
    -6
  • Penalty conceded (foul)
    -2
  • Penalty missed
    -3
  • Own goal
    -4

Two yellows: -2 for each separate yellow (the resulting red doesn't add an extra -6). Straight red with a prior yellow: -2 + -6 = -8.

4. Goalkeeper-specific actions

AF Score is more generous with goalkeepers than classic fantasy games — their saves and saved penalties are decisive actions that almost no one rewards.

  • Goalkeeper save
    +0.5 each
  • Penalty saved
    +6

An epic goalkeeper performance (8 saves + clean sheet + 90') easily reaches 12 points. With a saved penalty it jumps to 18 — the 'star captain' threshold.

5. Rating bonus / penalty

The match rating (api-football) corrects up or down. The neutral band covers the typical match; the extremes reward or punish.

RatingPts% matches
≥ 9,55,00,4%
9,0 – 9,494,00,6%
8,5 – 8,993,01,5%
8,0 – 8,492,03,8%
7,5 – 7,991,011%
7,0 – 7,490,524%
6,5 – 6,99-1,035%
6,0 – 6,49-2,020%
< 6,0-3,04%

Calibrated on 48,273 real LaLiga 2024/25 performances (starters ≥ 60 min). Expected value per match ≈ -0.48 pts: the system is deliberately demanding — it rewards the standout and punishes the mediocre.

6. Special cases

Extra time, penalty shootouts, eliminations.

Extra time (90' - 120')

Counts as normal minutes. Goals, assists, cards, saves: same as in 90'.

Penalty shootout

  • Penalty scored in shootout
    +2 (to the taker)
  • Penalty missed or saved in shootout
    -2 (to the taker)
  • Penalty saved in shootout (keeper)
    +2 (to the keeper)

Eliminated teams

Their players stop scoring from the next round on. There's no penalty for anyone who had them on their radar — they simply drop out of the count.

7. Example: how a score is built

Three real performances to understand the scale.

Star forward

13,0
  • 90' played: +3
  • Goal (FW): +4
  • First goal of the match: +1
  • Winning goal: +2
  • Assist: +3

Captain threshold cleared (≥ 10).

Standout goalkeeper

11,0
  • 90' played: +3
  • Clean sheet: +5
  • 4 saves × 0.5: +2
  • Rating 7.6 (very good): +1

A saved penalty would push it to 17 — star captain.

Ideal Jester

1,0
  • 90' played: +3
  • Yellow card: -2
  • No goal, assist or relevant stats

A quiet starter: the perfect target for the Jester role.

8. Visual reading: color ranges

When you see a player's score, the color tells you at a glance how good it was.

12,0Elite — Captain
8,0Great match
5,0Solid
3,0Quiet
1,0Weak
0,0No impact
-2,0Bad match

9. Continuous calibration

AF Score thresholds are calibrated against each league's real distribution. This first version is tuned with LaLiga's 2024/25 season. In v2 the defensive component was reinforced: a defender's clean sheet rises to +5 and tackles, interceptions and blocks are added to the breakdown. When we add the Premier League, Bundesliga or the 2026 World Cup, we'll recalculate the thresholds so the split of ranges (positive / neutral / negative) stays coherent with each competition.
